A fluvial parade honoring the Holy Patron Sto. Niño was celebrated on January 7, 2024, at the scenic Calumpang River as part of the annual fiesta celebration that showcases fidelity and communal enthusiasm.
This event marked the beginning of the novena for the much-awaited feast day on January 16 and brought hundreds of devotees together from all around the city. The event not only served as an expression of gratitude from the city’s residents for the blessings received but also as a plea for the continuous guidance and protection from the Holy Patron against calamities.
From Sta. Clara, about 20 exquisitely crafted boats depart into the Calumpang River. Among the notable local officials are Congressman Marvey Marino, Vice Mayor Alyssa Cruz, City Administrator Engineer Sonny Godoy and other department heads gathered at a prominent pagoda next to the priests from the Immaculate Conception Church., and Mayor Beverley Dimacuha.
During the procession, students from the CLB Culture and Arts group performed traditional Subli before the march as part of the celebration of the Sto Niño introduced whole cultural customs, together with kids from other schools.
As the procession passed, different images of the Sto Niño were displayed in many homes around the City, demonstrating the community's unwavering devotion. A wonderful fireworks display that extremely encapsulated the festive mood of the day greeted the procession as it arrived at the Basilica.
With a solemn Holy Mass to mark the start of the first night of the novena, the day came to an end and the community was filled with togetherness and devotion to the Sto. Niño. The community's relationship with their beloved patron, Sto. Niño was strengthened as the river procession drew to an end thanks to the sincere sentiments of gratitude and the shared stories of faith that radiated across Batangas City.
