CLB 18th Commencement Exercises Enfold a Chapter

Colegio ng Lungsod ng Batangas celebrated its 18th Commencement Exercises with the theme “Driven by Purpose, Defined by Excellence” at the Batangas City Convention Center on August 15, 2025.

The event brimmed with excitement and joy as graduates, donned in their caps and gowns, proudly walked in the processional. One hundred eighty-nine (189) graduates marched across the stage to receive their diplomas, a testament to years of hard work, resilience, and determination.

The ceremony began with an invocation led by Dr. Rosanni M. del Mundo, Vice President for Planning, Research, Extension, and Linkages, followed by the singing of the Philippine National Anthem. An inspirational message was then delivered by Hon. Mario Vittorio “Marvey” A. Mariño, Chairman of the Board of Trustees and Mayor of Batangas City.

A highlight of the program was the commendation of Hon. Beverley Rose A. Dimacuha, Former Chairman of the Board of Trustees (2015–2025) and Congresswoman of Batangas’ 5th District, for her years of dedicated service to the institution. Dr. Dolores D. Borras, Vice President for Academic Affairs, formally presented the candidates for graduation from five degree programs. In contrast, Ms. Roxanne V. Geron, Registrar II of TESDA RTC CALABARZON, presented the candidates for graduation from the Diploma in Technology and Livelihood Education.

The confirmation of graduates was officially granted by Dr. Lorna L. Gappi, College Administrator, alongside RD Archie A. Grande, CESO III, Regional Director of TESDA CALABARZON represented by TESDA Administrator, Mr. Gary Puaso. Dr. Mary Ann E. Antenor, Executive Vice President, introduced the commencement speaker, who subsequently welcomed the address delivered by Atty. Ma. Claribel Ochoa, Foreign Service Officer Class II and Special Assistant at the Department of Foreign Affairs.

In her Commencement Address, Atty. Ochoa drew inspiration from the timeless Parable of the Starfish. She reminded the graduates that even small acts of purpose can ripple outward to create great change:
“Like the boy who picked up a starfish and threw it back to the sea, remember that no act of kindness or service is ever too small. What you do may not change the whole world, but it will change someone’s world.”

She encouraged them to see their education as more than a personal milestone but as a responsibility to make a difference:
“Graduates of CLB, you are called not just to succeed for yourselves, but to be starfish throwers in your fields—whether in classrooms, offices, communities, or the nation. Every effort you make, every choice to act with integrity, every moment you serve, creates meaning.”

A plaque of appreciation was later presented to the commencement speaker by Mr. Manolo M. Perlada, CLB College Secretary. Graduates then received their diplomas during the awarding rites, along with the distribution of honors and awards. Ms. Princess Mariane De Torres, Magna Cum Laude of the Bachelor of Elementary Education program, delivered the farewell address, sharing her inspiring journey as a student who persevered with the support of her parents. With heartfelt gratitude, she reminded her fellow graduates:
“Our diplomas are not just pieces of paper; they are symbols of sleepless nights, silent prayers, and unwavering sacrifices. Let this achievement be a reminder that no dream is too distant when pursued with faith, resilience, and a grateful heart.”

She also expressed her deep appreciation to their alma mater, Colegio ng Lungsod ng Batangas, for nurturing them not only with knowledge but also with character:
“To CLB, thank you for being our second home that shaped us into individuals ready to teach, to serve, and to lead. Wherever life may take us, we will carry the lessons, values, and pride of being CLBians.”

Another Magna Cum Laude, Ms. Jhenie Lipana Mendoza, led the graduates’ pledge of loyalty, affirming their loyalty and commitment as alumni.

The induction of the new alumni members was officiated by Mr. James B. Macalalad, President of the CLB Alumni Association, before the singing of the College Hymn. The recessional marked the closing of the celebration.

Serving as master of ceremonies, Dr. Retchie M. Guico, Dean of the College of Education, guided the entire program with warmth and inspiration, congratulating the graduates on this significant milestone.

With diplomas in hand and dreams set high, the Batch 2025 graduates of Colegio ng Lungsod ng Batangas are now ready to embrace new challenges and opportunities, marking the beginning of another remarkable chapter in their lives.
