Driven by its aspiration to be a prime producer of excellent, benevolent, and
disciplined citizens, the Colegio ng Lungsod ng Batangas is on its initial steps
towards receiving programs accreditation from the Association of Local Colleges and
Universities Commission on Accreditation (ALCUCOA).
ALCUCOA is the accrediting body of local government universities and colleges in the
Philippines and is a CHED recognized body which examines the operational and
management aspects of academic institutions in the local government to check whether
such learning institutions are operating within or above the standards set for
Higher Education Institutions. Initially, a school applies for a candidate status
and shall be given accredited status once over-all ratings on key result areas are
satisfied. The college then can apply for Level 1 status and shall undergo the
accreditation for the said level.
CLB has been granted a certificate of
“candidate status” by the ALCUCOA for Bachelor of Elementary Education (BEED)
and Bachelor of Science in Business Administration (BSBA) last March 17, 2022.
On September 5, 2022, Dr. Raymundo P. Arcega, President and Executive Director
of ALCUCOA, conducted an orientation visit for Level 1 Program Accreditation.
The Colegio ng Lungsod ng Batangas is applying for Level 1 Accreditation status
on two of its programs – BEED and BSBA The 3-day accreditation visit will is
scheduled on September 20-22, 2022. The evaluation will once again focus on the
areas of accreditation: curriculum and instruction; faculty; governance and
administration; library; laboratories; research; student services; student
development; community extension and employability.
Once accredited, it would be a significant development for the college in its
continuous aspirations in providing accessible quality education to students and
serve the larger community. In addition to that, an accreditation status would
give rise to certain privileges being granted by the regulatory education body.
This includes exemption from institutional quality assurance and recognition by
foreign ministries of education. Any endorsements made by ALCUCOA will also
qualify CLB to apply and receive grants and scholarships for faculty, students
and staff. It is also used as a criterion in the selection of schools for
foreign students. Additionally, such status will also qualify the college to
receive grants for research, extension, and other projects and consultative
assistance in the deployment of OJT students to name a few. Any graduate from
accredited programs would also be granted credit points for any future teaching
applications.
