ISKOLAR NG BAYAN FOCUS: CHRISTIAN REY L. SUMANGA
When you see an individual that emanates a certain level of brightness, one should always put focus and continue bringing that light into a more illuminating state. Being a student is not an easy task but there are selected students who can juggle academics, extra-curriculars and leadership with ease, and on prime example of which is Christian Rey L. Sumanga.
A COLLEGE STUDENT: REMARKABLE ON HIS OWN RIGHT
A student is often defined with his/her academic credentials and Christian surely embodies that well. A consistent achiever as exemplified by his Dean’s Lister accolades through the years (2021 up to present). He has been part of Top students on several subjects from his freshmen year up to today that he is on his senior year. He is a model to his classmates in showing them that great results can be achieved if given high priority and focus. And despite being great on his academics, he has remained humble and continue to illuminate the path for others who try to emulate him.

They always say that leadership is forged but for Christian it all felt natural. His innate skills to lead are bolstered by his great heart to serve putting the welfare of many in front of his own. In his leadership positions, he was recognized several times showing us that he was not just someone who is a leader by paper but a leader by his deeds. He received the SEC Appreciation for Commendable Class Leadership Awardee 2022 and 2023, the Junior ALCU National Leadership Award, Exemplary Service Award Junior ALCU Philippines, EBD Memorial Seal of Outstanding Youth Governance – Silver Seal Awardee and SEC Appreciation Award for 2024.
SOCIO-CULTURAL EXCELLENCE
He has been one of the pioneers of CLIMB, the official student publication of Colegio ng Lungsod ng Batangas where he has served several positions as well from being the Associate Editor, Managing Editor, News Writer and currently its External Affairs Lead. His responsible journalistic skills pushes is a reminder that what is given out to the public should stay true to the standards of greatness while being ethically sound and morally correct. Aside from his writing skills that provides students with reliable information, he is also a regular choice for most events in CLB as a master of ceremony – a further proof of his talent, greatness and ability to make people listen. But his accolades do not stop from there. He was also adjudged as Mr. College of Business and Accountancy 2023 also winning several special awards along the way. And just when you thought he has limitations, he even showed everyone that he is also adept in sports positioning himself as a medalist in the Table Tennis category of Dasiklakasan 2024 as well as part of the winning volleyball team from Dasiklakasan 2023.
A CAUSE FOR CHANGE AND IMPROVEMENT
Christian does not only look for personal improvement but for the betterment of everyone else. He spearheaded the joining of Junior Marketing Association – CLB Chapter into the LYDO and also was a major driver in the inclusion of both the Student Executive Council and CLIMB into the organization of local youths in the area. He understands the value of progress and youth empowerment and is a driver for which. This is a testament that he wants to spread positivity and greatness to many thus effecting for change and valuing improvement. As an Executive Founding Officer of SANTELMO-CLB PRIDE ASSOCIATION, he has continued his quest for equality and equity – giving opportunities for members of the LGBTQIA and allies to have a positive effect unto others. He remains to be a catalyst for change – a leader that does not satisfy with status quo but instead challenges norms to improve while still staying true to his moral aspirations. His belief with students of CLB shows a great amount of trust from which he continues to reap respect from his peers.
FOR THE SCHOOL’S PRIDE: ACCOLADES AND MORE
When representing the school in competitions, he has always worn his greatest effort on his sleeves ultimately showing what a true CLBIAN is about. He joined the 2024 Regional Higher Education Press Conference and won 10th Place in the Poetry Writing Category (English) from which he received commendation from the Sangguniang Panglungsod of Batangas City. Recently he was ranked 4th in the Certified Marketing Management Specialist exams (Nationwide) which is a first for the institution to gain a topnotcher on any examination of its kind. He continued his success as part of the 2nd place winning team for the Batangas City Wide Business Quiz Bee.
ISKOLAR NG BAYAN INDEED
A true blooded CLB “Iskolar na Bayan” – Christian will forever be etched in the history books of the institution. Not just because of his accolades and credentials but more so with his character and pure heart. He is student worth emulating and will be a reminder to everyone that in the search for greatness and excellence one can remain humble and nice.
